Shirley C. Todd
Shirley C. Todd, 75, of Gettysburg passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
She will be remembered for her passion for helping others and her unconditional love for her family. Her thoughtfulness and kindness was beyond measure. Her heart was warm and caring. She touched so many lives in her 75 years and was taken from us far too soon.
She was born on November 23, 1935 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the daughter of P.H. and Sadie Cunningham. She spent most of her childhood in Missouri, a brief time in Cumberland, Maryland and has called Gettysburg home since 1955.
Shortly after coming to Gettysburg, she began her distinguished career at the Annie M. Warner hospital. She began working for the Hospital Administrator and for the next 44 years devoted her life to the Gettysburg Surgical Associates where she held positions as a medical assistant and office manager. She retired in 2004.
Her proudest achievement was getting her certification as a medical coder in general surgery. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, baking, and cooking.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles; her daughter Ann Todd of Fairfax, Virginia, her son David Todd and his fiancé Amy Kaufman of Biglerville, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Jean Reed, of Nashville, Tennessee. She was surrounded by 5 special rescue dogs and 3 rescue cats that she proudly claimed as grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 at Monahan Funeral Home 125 Carlisle Street in Gettysburg.
